  77. <p>The program enables to overwrite the current <i>bootable
  78. code</i> in the <A  class=glossterm  x-use-popup=#POPUP33265  x-popup-type=expanding href='javascript:kadovTextPopup(this)' id=HotSpot33265>MBR</A><SCRIPT type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript1.2">kadovTextPopupInit('HotSpot33265');</SCRIPT> (Master Boot Record) by the standard <i>bootstrap code</i>.
  79. This can help to repair a corrupted bootable code of a hard disk resulted from
  80. a <i>boot virus</i> attack or a malfunction of boot management software.</p>

  121. of the primary partitions.</p>

  127. <p>In Linux, every partition has a special symbolic name that
  128. encodes a hard disk containing a partition, and a partition itself. Partitions
  129. are addressed and accessed by using their symbolic names. Symbolic names are
  130. automatically generated by Linux in accordance with the order of hard disks in
  131. BIOS and the order of partition records in the <i>Partition Table</i>. Thus
  132. changing enumeration of the primary partitions can lead to changing of paths to
  133. some important resources.</p>

  137. <p><b>In DOS</b>:</p>
  138.  
  139. <p>The last versions of MS-DOS use a rather sophisticated
  140. algorithm for a drive letter assignment. A drive letter, which is assigned to a
  141. partition, depends on the order of records in the <i>Partition Table</i>. Thus
  142. changing enumeration of the primary partitions affects the drive letters
  143. assignment. In early versions of </p>
  144.  
  145. <p>MS-DOS, it could even lead to the unavailability of a
  146. partition.</p>

  150. <p>The program provides the ability to change enumeration of the
  151. primary partitions. This feature will allow you to fix problems concerning an
  152. inappropriate order of partitions.</p>

  219.  <P>is the 0th sector of the disk. MBR (Master Boot Record) contains important information about the disk layout:  - The used partitioning scheme;  - The starting records of the Partition Table;  - The standard bootstrap code (or the initial code of boot managers, disk overlay software or boot viruses). Generally, the 0th sector is used for similar purposes in all existing partitioning schemes.     The MBR capacity is not sufficient to contain sophisticated boot programs. That's why the on-boot software is allowed to use the entire 0th track of the disk. For example, boot managing utilities such as LILO, GRUB and Paragon Boot Manager are located in the 0th track.</P>
